  • Aalynor's Nexus [Website] [Update listing]

Great Fantasy role playing MUD that encourages role-playing and discourages player killing. One can expect a great world to explore... while at the same time having a challenging experience in leveling up and gaining skill. The people of this world are fantastic and willing to help new players!

  • Abandoned Codex [Website] [Update listing]

Heavily modified and built upon SMAUG-based mud with six years' worth of history and development, and its own unique multilayered plotlines and roleplay.

  • Arctic [Website] [Update listing]
    Other Categories: Worlds for Fans

Arctic is a multi-player fantasy role-playing game loosely based on TSR's Dragonlance novels. The base code for the game was gamma DikuMUD but it's been extensively modified over the course of three years to provide a unique balance of realism and playability.

If you're new to MUDs, Arctic is a text-based adventure game where you create a persona and adventure in a fantasy world. You can explore the world of Krynn -- solving puzzles, combatting fantastic creatures, and discovering rare treasures -- along with up to 100 other simultaneous players.

Arctic is geared towards a mature game-playing audience. There is an emphasis on role-playing, and character interactions are handled in a realistic manner. This means there is sometimes competition and disputes between characters, and these disputes will sometimes end in violence. Player-characters stealing from and killing other player-characters is not necessarily encouraged, but it is allowed.

  • Discworld [Website] [Update listing]
    Other Categories: Funny worlds

Discworld is based on the Discworld books as written by Terry Pratchett. The current city of Ankh-Morpork closely follows the design of the city as set out in the Maps of Ankh-Morpork. When you log onto Discworld please do not choose a name of a character from these books. (Terry Pratchett's Discworld books aren't traditional fantasy (no hobbits, orcs, or drow here), but they contain many of the elements of fantasy while generally being very funny and well worth the read.)

  • Dreamverse [Website] [Update listing]
Other Categories: Fantasy Role-playing Worlds, Swords and Sorcery worlds, Social worlds

The world of Dreamverse consists of a large wilderness system that is used to link areas together and provide a sense of depth and distance. All outdoor rooms have an aerial counterpart and water-based rooms have surface as well as underwater components.

  • Fataldimensions [Website] [Update listing]

  • Northern Lights [Website] [Update listing]

Northern Lights opened officially on June 6, 1992. Since then we have grown to become the most popular MUD of the Aber variety. Come and explore the secrets of the Empire and the barbarian lands, or find a way to gain the eternal gratitude of a real Pirate King! You might even manage to find the real reason behind crop circles...

Our web site contains information about Northern Lights, pictures of some of our many players, some of the yarns that our immortals have spun and a comprehensible guide on how to write good zones in the dirt format. It also contains a manual on to how to use the unique catch code system that allows the zone writers to write their special cases directly in the zone.
